Today, the Toledo Symphony’s Music Director Alain Trudel was named Knight of the National Order of Québec, or the Ordre national du Québec. Founded in 1984, the National Order of Québec is the highest civilian honor for merit awarded by the Canadian province of Québec. Trudel will be one of 35 people honorees.
The Order is administered by the Council of the National Order of Québec, elected by and amongst the members of the order for a period of three years and headed by a president elected by the council for two years. The Order is intended to honor current or former Québec residents for the highest level of achievement in a particular field. Alain Trudel will be recognized for his contributions to music as a conductor and trombonist.
Every fall, a public call for nominations is announced. After evaluations of each nomination, the Council of the National Order of Québec recommends to the Prime Minister the nominations of the year, which are formalized by government decree, for the presentation of the insignia in June. All recipients will be decorated on June 20 at a ceremony at the Legislative Council of the Parliament Building in Québec City.
“After seeing Alain’s impact on our community in his first year as our Music Director, we are immensely proud but not at all surprised that the Council of the National Order of Québec has recognized his lifelong impact on his home province,” says Zak Vassar, President & CEO of the Toledo Symphony. “As both an amazing musician and a builder of communities, we look forward to bearing witness to Alain’s achievements both here and in Québec. We offer him our most heartfelt congratulations!”
Alain Trudel was named Music Director of the Toledo Symphony in June 2017. Earlier this month, Trudel concluded the 2018-2019 season, his first full season with the Toledo Symphony and the orchestra’s 75th anniversary. Trudel is also the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of l’Orchestre symphonique de Laval in Canada.
