Savor the Last Bit of Summer at Toledo’s Science Center

August means back to school season, but the fun doesn’t have to end just yet. Make summer linger just a little longer at Imagination Station. Race in for Summer of Speed activities, tinker your way to an official Young MacGyver badge, celebrate a victory at Trivia Night or slow it down with an evening on the H2O Cafe riverfront patio.

 

Upcoming special events at Imagination Station:

Wonders of Water

Saturday, August 3, 10am – 5pm

Water is one of our most precious resources. Learn more about the Great Lakes and their significance in the way we live, work and play in Toledo. Visitors will discover the creatures that live in the water, meet the experts who monitor and study the health of our waterways, learn how fresh water is converted to drinking water and enjoy water-based games, challenges and activities. Free with science center admission.

 

Super Summer Scientists

Wednesday, August 7, 10:15 – 11:15am

Children ages 3 - 6 will  gain hands-on experience with science tools like telescopes, binoculars and magnifying glasses to explore things that are too far away, or too small to easily see with just our eyes alone. Registration is $5 for science center Members and $7 for Non-members.

 

Jeep Fest

Saturday, August 10, 10am – 5pm

Sunday, August 11, 12 – 5pm

Downtown Toledo will be transformed into the Jeep-lovers paradise! Imagination Station is proud to once again be part of the festivities. Join us at Festival Park for free fun science activities all weekend long!

 

Plus, Imagination Station is celebrating a Summer of Speed with Dave’s Running Shop. Jeep Fest 4-Miler participants will receive special buy one, get one free admission to the science center when they show their race bib on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11.

 

Toledo Spirits Takeover at H2O Cafe

Saturday, August 10, 11am – 9pm

Sample delightful, hand-crafted cocktails from local distiller, Toledo Spirits. Their team will take over the patio to share signature drinks made with their small-batch vodkas, moonshine, whiskeys and other spirits. Science center admission is not required to enjoy H2O Cafe.

 

Trivia Night at H2O Cafe

Sunday, August 11, 6pm

So no one told you life was gonna be this way… if you liked Friends, you’ll love our trivia night! Grab a few friends of your own and put your knowledge of the long-running TV sitcom to the test. Science center admission is not required to participate in Trivia Night.

 

$5 After 5pm

Thursday, August 15, 5 – 8pm

Bring the whole family for the evening and experience hundreds of hands-on exhibits for just $5 admission each. It’s a great way to squeeze some science fun into your busy schedule at a special admission price!

 

Art Loop: Art of Automobiles

Thursday, August 15, 5 – 8pm

Build the freshest ride on the block with just a handful of mints and some simple materials, then take it for a spin around the rest of the Art Loop. Science center admission is not required to participate in Art Loop activities.

 

Name that Tune with Dave and Melissa at H2O Cafe

Saturday, August 17, 6pm

You might know the chorus, but do you know who sang the song? Put your knowledge of music from the 50’s to today to the test, or just hum along for Name that Tune with Dave and Melissa at Imagination Station’s H2O Cafe. Science center admission is not required to participate in Name that Tune.

Tinkering Space: Backpacks and Bookmaking

All month, Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm, Sunday 12 – 5pm

Visitors get ready to head back to class in style with a backpack that they design and create themselves. Aspiring authors, illustrators and publishers will enjoy assembling their own book to take home and share with others. Free with science center admission.

 

Think Tank Workshops: Shark Dissection

Saturdays, 2 – 3:30pm

Dive deep into the science of anatomy! Budding biologists will gain a better understanding of various body systems and how they work together as they identify and examine the tissues, structures and organs of a shark. Registration required. The Shark Dissection Workshops are $8 for Imagination Station Members and $10 for Non-members.

 

Young MacGyver Summer Camp, presented by Jerl Machine and sponsored by BP

August 5 – 9, 9am – 4:30pm

There was never a situation MacGyver couldn’t tinker his way out of! Using simple household tools, campers will devise grappling hooks, construct flashlights and even learn how to pick a lock. At the end of the week, they will have tinkered their way to earning an official Young MacGyver badge! Registration required. Camp programming is $175 for Imagination Station Members and $200 for Non-members.

 

Super Splatter 2.0 Summer Camp, presented by Jerl Machine and sponsored by BP

August 5 – 9, 9am – 4:30pm

Super Splatter 2.0 campers will have a BLAST while experimenting with colors, bubbles, eruptions and eggs. Campers should be prepared for a messy good time. Registration required. Camp programming is $175 for Imagination Station Members and $200 for Non-members.

 

Mini Explorers Club: Watermelons

August 6 or 13, 2 – 3:30pm

Children ages 3 – 5 will investigate watermelons and discover what makes them so delicious, use all five senses to observe watermelons and then invent a device that will remove watermelon seeds in this free program. Free with science center admission.

 

Imagination Station provides a critical layer of science enrichment by serving as an educational partner for teachers, schools and parents.
