Fall Means Spooky, Slimy, Groovy and Ghostly Fun at Imagination Station

Fall is the perfect season for crazy costumes, slippery slime, creepy creatures and spooky shadows. This October, Imagination Station is the place to be for seasonal science! Dress up boogie down on the dance floor, tinker with shadows, mix up some super-awesome slime and so much more. It’s all at Toledo’s Science Center this month.

Upcoming events and workshops:

Tinkering Space: Monstrous Shadows
Daily in October

Differences in light and a little imagination can make ordinary objects take on a spooky appearance. Construct a creature of your own, then tinker with light and shadow to cast enormous, creepy shadows that will give you goosebumps and send shivers down your spine! Included with admission.

 

Little Scientist Workshops
Thursdays, 11:30am -12:15pm

Little Scientist Workshops are a series of programs that encourage families with children ages 3 - 5 to investigate the world around them through hands-on activities. Topics change weekly. Registration is required and science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members. Workshop pricing – Members: $5 per workshop and $40 for nine-week series; Non-members: $7 per workshop and $55 for the series.

 

Think Tank Workshops: Super Spooky Slime Lab
Saturdays, 2pm

Step into the Super Spooky Slime Lab to learn the science behind making the perfect polymer! Work side by side with expert Slimeologists to create Pumpkin Guts, Witches Brew and Ghostly Glow slimes. Then take home your spooktacular creations! Registration is required. Workshop pricing – Members: $6 each; Non-members: $8 each. Science center admission must be purchased separately for Non-members.

 

Slime Time
October 5 – 6

This weekend is dedicated to everyone’s favorite polymer. Visit each slime station in the Slime Buffet to learn the secrets of making the best slime. Sample alginate slime “worms,” experiment with ooblek and catch our super slime demonstration. Grab some friends and join in all the gooey, gloppy fun!
Slime Time activities are included in Imagination Station admission.

 

Homeschool Workshop: Rock Cycle
Wednesday, September 25, 10:30am – 12pm

Igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary - rocks make up the world we live on! Students will explore the three classifications of rocks, as well as how each one is made and how they can transform into each other. Registration is required and science center admission must be purchased separately for

Non-members. Workshop pricing – Members: $12 per workshop or $100 for the nine-workshop series; Non-members: $17 per workshop and $145 for the series.

Saturday, October 12, 7 – 11pm

It's time to step back to the 70s, slip on some platform shoes and get your groove on at Imagination Station's annual fundraiser. Sample fare from dozens of local restaurants, dance the night away with 70s cover band, Disco Inferno, feel the funk in a silent disco with Studio 54 and bid on groovy silent auction items. Tickets are $95 each and are available for pre-order at imaginationstationtoledo.org. Imagination Station is closed to the public on October 12 in preparation for The BASH.

 

$5 After 5pm
Thursday, October 17, 5 – 8pm

Bring the whole family for the evening and experience hundreds of hands-on exhibits for
$5 admission each. It’s a great way for science-lovers to squeeze some science fun into their busy schedules at a special admission price! $5 After 5pm is offered the third Thursday of each month through December.

 

Art Loop: Haunted Harvest

Thursday, October 17, 5 – 8pm

Get ready for the spooky season with special effects makeup that will transform Art Loop visitors into a zombie. Art Loop activities are free and science center admission is not required.

 

Members-Only Monster Bash
Thursday, October 24, 6 – 8pm

This is one spooktacular event! Members can come dressed in their favorite costumes to be treated and tricked, spooked and surprised. Members of all ages will get up close with lizards, show off their spooky moves on the dance floor, snack on s’mores and get hands-on with fun science-themed activities. Monster Bash is a free Members-only event.

 

Wicked Gross Science
October 26 - 31

What’s creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky? Science! Slink in to explore the slimy, ooey, gooey, sticky, icky and mind-boggling side of science. With mystifying makeup, terrifying(ly fun) toys, bizarre biology and more! Ghouls and goblins of all ages will have a wicked good time. Wicked Gross Science activities are included in Imagination Station admission.

All Lucas County residents receive a $2 discount and FREE Saturday admission for kids, 12 and under with paid adult admission, limit two children per adult.

Imagination Station provides a critical layer of science enrichment by serving as an educational partner for teachers, schools and parents.
