November is Packed with Science Fun at Imagination Station

Imagination Station is grateful for opportunities to share treasured time with friends and family. This November, there is no better place to make memories than at Toledo’s Science Center. This fall, gather together to enjoy the abundance of science fun happenings at Imagination Station!

Upcoming events and activities:

Tinkering Space: Toy & Electronics Take-Apart
Daily in November

Visitors to the Tinkering Space will learn how to use a variety of tools as they dissect toys and electronics to discover the gears, computer chips and other mechanisms inside. Included with admission.

 

Science Story Time: Sound
Daily in November: Tuesday – Saturday, 11:15am; Sunday at 1:15pm

Young children and their caregiver will enjoy an exciting interactive story followed by a hands-on activity designed to support science learning. This month, little audio engineers will learn how sound is made. Included with admission.

 

Operation Heart and Diabetes Initiative with The University of Toledo
Saturday, November 2 and Saturday, November 9

Representatives from The University of Toledo’s chapter of the American Pharmacist Association will be onsite to educate visitors about the importance of heart health and diabetes prevention. Visitors will receive a free blood pressure reading, receive helpful tips for medication storage and disposal, and learn more about pharmaceutical careers. Included in science center admission.

 

Science After Dark: Science and Spirits
Thursday, November 7
6 – 9pm

Learn about the science of distilling while sampling specialty liquors from Toledo Spirits, Six-Fifths Distilling and High Level Distilling. Grab some BBQ, watch exciting science demonstrations, explore the science center, take a spin on a mechanical bull and more! Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 for members and $35 for non-members at the door. Visitors must be 21+ with proper ID. Tickets may be purchased online at imaginationstationtoledo.org/science-after-dark

 

Extreme Weather Week
Tuesday – Sunday, November 19 – 24

Storms, lightning, tornadoes…oh my! Visitors will explore these extreme weather phenomena while learning the fundamentals of how our planet experiences weather and climate. Watch a cloud form, experience the shocking effects of electrostatic power and experience a major storm in the Hurricane Chamber. Included in science center admission.

 

Snow-mazing Science
Saturday, November 23, 10am – 5pm

Learn how the experts prepare for winter weather with the Ohio Department of Transportation. Visitors can get up close to a snow plow, program an electronic sign with a custom message, try on safety gear, discover how salt melts snow and ice and take part in other hands-on activities! Included with science center admission.

 

$5 After 5pm
Thursday, November 21, 5 – 8pm

Bring the whole family for the evening and experience hundreds of hands-on exhibits for $5 admission each. It’s a great way for science-lovers to squeeze some science fun into their busy schedules at a special admission price! $5 After 5pm is offered the third Thursday of each month through December.

 

Art Loop: Jazz Loop
Thursday, November 21, 5 – 8pm

Be a part of the band! Aspiring musicians will learn about vibration, sound waves and pitch as they make a straw oboe and experiment with an unusual instrument called a Theremin. Art Loop activities are free and science center admission is not required.

Think Tank Workshops: Ugly Sweater Fabrication
Saturdays, November 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2pm

Explore the basics of sewing and use crazy decorations and LED lights to create a one-of-a-kind, tacky sweater perfect for making a statement at an upcoming holiday party. Registration is required. Workshop pricing – members: $6 each; non-members: $8 each. Science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members.

 

Mini Explorers Club: Sound
Tuesdays, November 5 or 19, 1 – 2:15pm or 2:20 – 3:45pm
Saturday, November 23, 1 – 2:15pm

Children ages 3 - 5 will work together to plan and carry out investigations to identify mystery sounds, design and build an instrument using everyday materials, and learn about the science of sound using their sense of sight. Included in science center admission.

 

Homeschool Workshop: Life Cycle
Wednesday, November 6, 10:30am – 12pm

All living things have a pattern to how they grow and change. During this workshop, homeschool students will explore the life cycles of a variety of plants and animals. Registration is required and science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members. Workshop pricing – members: $12 per workshop; non-members: $17 per workshop.

 

Little Scientist Workshops
Thursdays, November 7, 14 and 21, 11:30am -12:15pm

Little Scientist Workshops are a series of programs that encourage families with children ages 3 - 5 to investigate the world around them through hands-on activities. Topics change weekly. Registration is required and science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members. Workshop pricing – members: $5 per workshop; non-members: $7 per workshop.

 

On Saturdays, all Lucas County residents receive a $2 discount and FREE admission for kids, 12 and under with paid adult admission, limit two children per adult.

Imagination Station provides a critical layer of science enrichment by serving as an educational partner for teachers, schools and parents. It’s with a thoughtful blend of exhibits, experiences, education and excitement
that Imagination Station inspires visitors to pursue STEM careers in Northwest Ohio.
