Celebrate the Season of Wonder at Imagination Station

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! From the molecular structure of a snowflake to the circuitry of twinkling lights, there is plenty of science to discover at Imagination Station this December. Celebrate all the wonder of the season with Snowmazing Science, presented by Comfort Line FiberFrame.

Snowmazing Science: Community Art Project

Help transform Imagination Station into a winter wonderland! Explore physics and learn how to use hand tools to construct a kinetic structure to display. Together we will fill Discovery Hall with a beautiful blizzard of twirling, swirling snow mobiles! Activity included with admission.

Tinkering Space: Electronic Greeting Cards

Send a holiday greeting with extra pizzazz this year! Add a few circuits and LED lights to your holiday message to create a card that twinkles and sparkles with all the festivity of the season. Activity included with admission.

Science Story Time: Sound

Young children and their caregiver will enjoy an exciting interactive story followed by a hands-on activity designed to support science learning. This month, little hydrologists will investigate the states of matter as they learn about snow. Activity included with admission.

 

Thursday, December 5, 6 – 8pm

Cookies & Cocoa with Claus

Imagination Station Members are invited to kick off the holiday season with one of its most popular events. Members are encouraged to wear their pajamas and explore the science center, make holiday ornaments, listen to carolers, meet real reindeer and enjoy a special story time with Santa.

Event is open to science center members only.

Snowmazing Science

Gingerbread Make-Off, Noon – 1:30pm

Winter Sisters Meet & Greet, Noon – 3pm

It takes a steady hand and an eye for design to build a gingerbread house. Watch as professional bakers square off in an extreme gingerbread-building contest in a race against time, then vote for a favorite. Plus, it just wouldn’t be winter without a visit from the Winter Sisters. Bring a camera for a photo with Elsa and Anna! Activities included with admission.

 

December 14

Snowmazing Science: Winter Sports Science

‘Tis the season to bundle up and get active with winter sports! Learn more about the unique sport of ice boating and discover the science in skiing, snowboarding, figure skating and snowshoeing. Give
hockey and curling a try, and meet Toledo Walleye Mascot, Spike! Activities included with admission.

 

December 14 - 15

Snowmazing Science: Model Train Days
Marvel at a model train display decorated with miniature villages, cities and rural areas courtesy of BOo COo Trains. Children and adults alike will enjoy searching for hidden items within the wintry scene. Visitors will also learn the importance of respecting the immense size and power of trains with Operation Lifesaver. Activity included with admission.

 

Thursday, December 19, 5 – 8pm

$5 After 5pm

Bring the whole family for the evening and experience hundreds of hands-on exhibits for
$5 admission each. It’s a great way for science-lovers to squeeze some science fun into their busy schedules at a special admission price! $5 After 5pm is offered the third Thursday of each month.

 

Art Loop: Light Up Toledo!

Stop out for the last Art Loop of the season. Aspiring electricians can tinker with circuit blocks to design

a holiday lights display of their own. Art Loop activities are free and science center admission is not required.

Snowmazing Science: Laser Cut Ornaments

Handmade presents are a gift from the heart. Make and decorate a holiday ornament for the tree using
a laser cutter. Activity included with admission.

Snowmazing Science: Model Train Days

BOo COo Trains and Operation Lifesaver are back with their festive model train display and important information about train safety. Activity included with admission.

 

December 26 – 30

Snowmazing Science: Laser Cut Glasses

Unique accessories are always in style. Ring in the new year with a new look with glasses created on a laser cutter. Activity included with admission.

Snowmazing Science: Model Train Days

Make tracks to check out an incredible model train displays courtesy of BOo COo Trains and the Michigan LEGO User Group, and discover more about electromagnetic trains with our team of EXTREME engineers!  Visitors will also learn the importance of respecting the immense size and power of trains with Operation Lifesaver. Activity included with admission.

  

Monday, December 30

New Year’s Eve EVE Celebration

Drop in to the science center to welcome 2020 with a one-of-a-kind party on the day before New Year’s Eve – New Year’s Eve EVE. Bounce from activity to activity throughout the building and count down to 2:20pm when 20,000 bouncy balls will drop from the ceiling throughout the science center!

Think Tank Workshops: Gingerbread Construction
Saturdays, December 7, 14 and 21, 2pm

Visitors ages 7 and up can become an architect and chef as they use engineering, geometry and holiday sweets to construct a gingerbread house. Then decorate it for the holidays with a string of festive LED lights. Registration is required. Workshop pricing – members: $6 each; non-members: $8 each. Science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members.

 

Think Tank Workshops: Snow Slime
December 26, 27 and 28, 2pm

Not crazy about bundling up to stop around outside in wintry weather? Give our version of 'playing in

the snow' a try! Learn chemistry basics while experimenting with polymers and crosslinkers to create Igloo Goo, Arctic Ooze, Blizzard Bleck and Flurry Flubber. No mittens required! Registration is required. Workshop pricing – members: $6 each; non-members: $8 each. Science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members.

 

Mini Explorers Club: Snow
Tuesdays, December 3 or 10, 1 – 2:15pm or 2:20 – 3:45pm
Saturday, December 7, 1 – 2:15pm

Children ages 3 - 5 will practice the scientific method as they make observations, ask questions
and take measurements to gather information about how ice melts and snowflakes form,
and experience the wonder of “magic snow” that never melts. Included in science center admission.

 

On Saturdays, all Lucas County residents receive a $2 discount and FREE admission for kids, 12 and under with paid adult admission, limit two children per adult.

Imagination Station provides a critical layer of science enrichment by serving as an educational partner for teachers, schools and parents. It’s with a thoughtful blend of exhibits, experiences, education and excitement
that Imagination Station inspires visitors to pursue STEM careers in Northwest Ohio.

Regular Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm
                           Sunday, Noon – 5pm        

Imagination Station is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Tuesday – Wednesday, December 24 – 25.

The science center is open 10am – 5pm on Monday, December 30 for its New Year’s Eve Eve Celebration.
