February Offers Plenty of Reasons to Love Your Science Center

Are you smitten with science? Taken by technology? Enthralled with engineering? Moved by Math? Imagination Station is offering plenty of ways for visitors of all ages to fall in love with STEM this February.

Design a roller coaster that gives riders butterflies, encourage young scientists to do what they love, bring a date to pair local wines with chocolates, experience a mind-bending temporary exhibit, learn all about the heart and so much more!

February events and activities include:

Tinkering Space: Architecture in Your Neighborhood
Daily in February

Tinkerers will become an engineers and architects as they design the structures they wish were in our neighborhoods. They will envision the future of our community as they construct model bridges, skyscrapers, museums, playgrounds and more using common household materials. Activity included with admission.

 

Science Story Time: Engineering
Tuesday – Saturday, 11:15am; Sunday at 1:15pm

Young children and their caregiver will enjoy an exciting interactive story followed by a hands-on activity designed to support science learning. This month, little learners will put their skills to the test as they work together to solve an engineering challenge. Activity included with admission.

 

National Engineering Week
February 4 – 7

Visitors will put the engineering design process into practice and learn about gravity and potential and kinetic energy as they draft, build, test and tweak a roller coaster of their own design. Activity included with admission.

 

Girl Power! – presented by BP
Saturday, February 8

Girls in grades 3 – 8 are invited to spend an inspirational day at the science center. They will hear from keynote speaker, The University of Toledo’s Dr. Sandrine Mubenga, participate in engaging workshops, meet a wide variety of STEM professionals and experience dozens of hands-on activities. Registration is $20 for member participants and $10 for member chaperones; $25 for non-member participants and $15 for non-member chaperones.

 

Science After Dark: Wine and Chocolate
Thursday, February 13, 6 – 9pm

This adults-only evening of local wine and chocolate tastings, jazz music and exciting science demonstrations is perfect for the lifelong learner. Attendees will also be the first to experience the science center’s temporary exhibit, The Rooms of Illusion. Adults 21+ over with valid ID. Pre-sale tickets are $25 and available at imaginationstationtoledo.org. At-the-door pricing is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.

 

Temporary Exhibit: The Rooms of Illusion
Opens February 13

Imagination Station’s latest temporary exhibition is mind-boggling! The Rooms of Illusion features four individually-themed interactive rooms with optical illusions that will challenge visitors’ perceptions and allow them to see everyday surroundings in a whole new light! Visitors who love the science center’s Mind Zone learning world will love The Rooms of Illusion! Exhibit included with admission.

 

$5 After 5pm
Thursday, February 20, 5 – 8pm

Bring the whole family for the evening and experience hundreds of hands-on exhibits for
$5 admission each. It’s a great way for science-lovers to squeeze some science fun into their busy schedules at a special admission price! $5 After 5pm is offered the third Thursday of each month.

 

Space Week
February 25 – March 1

The sun, moon and planets each have unique and complex motions that cause them to interact in interesting ways. Discover the motions of the celestial bodies in our solar system in this week dedicated to exploring the final frontier! Activities included with admission.

 

Imagination Station Workshops in February:

Think Tank Workshops: Sheep Heart Dissection
Saturdays in February, 2pm

Sheep have a four-chambered heart, just like humans. By investigating the structures of a sheep heart through dissection, workshop participants will learn more about how this important organ works within their own bodies. Registration is required. Workshop pricing – members: $6 each; non-members: $8 each. Science center admission must be purchased separately for non-members.

 

Mini Explorers Club: Engineering
Tuesdays, February 11 or 25, 1 – 2:15pm and 2:20 – 3:45pm
Saturday, February 15, 1 – 2:15pm

Children ages 3 - 5 will huff and puff and explore the world of engineering. They will identify the design flaws in each of the houses of the three little pigs, then use what they learned to construct their own wind-resistant structures. Included in science center admission.

 

On Saturdays, all Lucas County residents receive a $2 discount and FREE admission for kids 12 and under with paid adult admission, limit two children per adult.

Imagination Station provides a critical layer of science enrichment by serving as an educational partner for teachers, schools and parents.
