Lucas County Announces First Death Related to 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)- Public Health Confirms First Death from COVID-19

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has confirmed the first death from 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The individual was a male in his early 70’s, traveled to California in the past month.

“Public Health extends our deepest condolences to the patient’s loved ones in the wake of this tragedy,” said Eric Zgodzinski, Health Commissioner. “We strongly recommend the Lucas County community to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against novel coronavirus. The Health Department will continue working with local, state, and community partners in order to prevent future cases and to educate those in Lucas County to practice social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19.”

Public Health continues to recommend that our community to follow directives to protect themselves and others from respiratory illnesses. Stay at home, wash your hands, clean and sanitize surfaces and cover your sneeze or cough using your elbow.
