Local Artist Increases Safety and adds Curbside Appeal to Monroe Street

The Arts Commission is excited to share the news of recently completed bike racks that will serve the Cherry Street Mission Ministries and all UpTown residents, as well as those commuting through the city via bicycle.

As part of a series of efforts to increase safety and neighborhood connectivity, The Arts Commission’s Creative Placemaking team and community partner Cherry Street Mission installed two artist-designed bike racks and two prefabricated bike racks for cyclists to secure bicycles as they access services and travel downtown.

A large number of the community members the Cherry Street Mission serves use bicycles as their main mode of transportation. However, there lacked sufficient infrastructure to park and lock up these bikes. A local community leader took notice and contacted The Arts Commission to discuss ways to solve this issue.
