Toledo Museum of Art’s Teen Leaders Program Seeks New Members

Toledo Museum of Art’s Teen Leaders program invites teens from the Toledo area to apply for membership at Students ages 14-18 are welcome. The application deadline is July 27, 2020.

Teen Leaders will provide creative insights and guidance for the expansion of teen experiences at TMA, while practicing communication, collaboration and creative thinking skills. As they learn about the Museum and the collection, Teen Leaders will meet artists and peers; design upcoming (Y)our Night events for teens; and develop new opportunities for Toledo teens to engage with TMA and art. Each Teen Leaders program participant will receive a stipend.

“The Teen Leaders program provides opportunities to gain real-world experience while engaging with other students who have similar interests,” said Annie Noel, youth programs coordinator at TMA. “More than 70 teens have participated in this fun, award-winning program since it began in 2015, and we look forward to welcoming new members in the coming year.”

Teen Leaders must make the following commitments:

  • Leaders must be available for a weeklong Teen Leaders training program Aug. 10-14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (Due to the coronavirus this meeting may be virtual.)
  • Leaders must be available for Thursday bi-weekly meetings, September-June, 4-6 p.m. 
  • Leaders must be available for quarterly (Y)our Nights Events on select Fridays, 6:30-9 p.m. 
  • Leaders must be responsible for personal transportation to and from the Museum.

Interested teens are welcome to apply for the Teen Leaders program by completing the online application form at Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The deadline to apply for the TMA Teen Leaders 2020-2021 program is July 27, 2020.

The Teen Leaders program (previously called Teen Apprentices) was established in 2015 to increase youth attendance at the Museum and provide real-world experiences, in partnership with the Toledo School for the Arts. With the generous support of The Hearst Foundations, the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, the LaValley Foundation and the Toledo Rotary Club Foundation, the program expanded to include participants from a variety of schools throughout Toledo in 2020. In 2019, the Teen Leaders program was awarded “Best Education Outreach Program” by the Ohio Museums Association.
