OUAC, Inc., the original founders of Once Upon A Child, Plato’s Closet, Clothes Mentor, New Uses and Gadget Ease, announced on America Recycles Day, November 19, 2019, that the company would be going bagless starting January 2020.

“The overwhelming positive response from our customers has been tremendous,” says Ben Blum, General Manager of OUAC, Inc. “We are grateful to all our customers for embracing this change.” the decision to go plastic-bagless was quite an easy step for the company to take, as it supports the company’s core values and environmental mission of recycling unneeded items.

Instead of plastic bags, customers are encouraged to bring in their own reusable bags to do their shopping. If they don’t already own a reusable shopping bag, stores are offering a $1.99 reusable tote bag for purchase, or a biodegradable bag that can be purchased at $0.10 each.

Now, almost a year later, the company is seeing the results. To date, the company has sold 49,907 environmentally friendly bags and has calculated saving the environment from 320,000 plastic bags.

OUAC, INC’s plastic bag reduction efforts are just part of the family company’s larger commitment to do business in a way that aims to encourage sustainability and strengthen local communities in the Columbus and Toledo Areas.

“We’re proud to be leading the charge, really, here in Columbus and Toledo” says Blum. “We’re doing our part in saving the planet and helping consumers live in a more sustainable way.”

OUAC, INC. operates 25 resale retail stores in Columbus and Toledo area. The first Once Upon a Child store opened in Perrysburg, Ohio. The success of the concept soon led to the creation of more successful recycling brands, including Plato’s Closet, Clothes Mentor, New Uses Home Store and GadgetEase.
