MUBA Cancels Uptown Trick-or-Treat and Holiday Light Parade Due to COVID-19

It is with great disappointment that the Maumee Uptown Business Association (MUBA) and the City of Maumee announce the cancellation of the 2020 Uptown Halloween Trick or Treat and the 2020 Holiday Light Parade. This decision was made jointly by MUBA and city leadership as a response to the public health crisis caused by COVID-19.

The 2020 Uptown Halloween Trick-or-Treat had been scheduled for Monday October 26th and the Holiday Light Parade was set to take place on Sunday, November 29th.

"As with most other large events this year, it is unsurprising that we have to cancel due to the public health concerns surrounding COVID-19, though that does not make the decision less disappointing to both MUBA members and the community." said Allison Fiscus, MUBA President. "We must take the health and safety of attendees and the community into account and avoiding crowds remains one of the best tools we have to limit COVID-19 spread."

MUBA and Maumee leadership decided that making the decision now would be in the best interest of the event participants and city employees. “So much time and dedication goes into these events each year on the part of participants and organizers that we thought it best to provide the information as early as possible so that energy would not be lost."

Maumee Mayor, Richard Carr supports the decision, adding, “I know it’s very disappointing, but it doesn’t make sense to hold events that draw large crowds when we are dealing with this virus.”

This decision does not affect trick-or-treating in the city of Maumee, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 31, in which social distance guidelines can be better controlled.

MUBA is looking forward to bringing both holiday events back to the Maumee community in 2021 when it is safe to gather once again.
