The tools are put away and now the feathers are flying in this down and dirty competition for the birdies. Battle of the Birdhouses welcomed local creative critter lovers to build the best birdhouse on the auction block. Over 25 teams entered the contest and now the birdhouses are being auction off online with all funds going to benefit Nature’s Nursery for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

It's been a challenging year for non-profit fundraising, with most in-person events being cancelled. Nature’s Nursery has embraced the uniqueness of the year with fundraisers that encourage virtual participation as well as offer engagement and enrichment for families at home. The latest fundraiser had 26 separate teams swinging hammers and cutting corners to wing-it as birdhouse builders.

“We had several families join in the contest and use the project as a virtual learning assignment focused on measurements and math” stated Allison Schroeder, Nature’s Nursery Executive Director. “We also had the Whitehouse Police Department challenge the Whitehouse Fire Department to a birdhouse show down. It’s been fun to see the variety of people, adults and kids, get involved and create unique entries.”

All 26 of the birdhouses are now on display at Route 64 Pub and Grub in Whitehouse for people to see in person during all restaurant operating hours. The online auction opened on Sunday morning and will continue through Saturday, October 24th at 7pm. Route 64 Pub and Grub will also host a dine in fundraiser for Nature’s Nursery on the 24th from 4pm-7pm to close out the auction.  The event will offer an additional silent auction, Nature’s Nursery info table and activities.  To see all of the birdhouses and participate in the bidding visit www.32auctions.com/birdhouses.

“The birdhouse builders have all been competitive and fun. The house that sells for the most on the auction site wins, and the winner gets a prize pack which includes a $100 Lowes Gift Card. They are all promoting their creations and really getting into the competition” said Schroeder.
