The Arts Commission’s Young Artists At Work (YAAW) Program is accepting applications for youth apprentices for the 2021 edition. Since 1994, YAAW has offered paid summer apprenticeships to area teens to learn creative skills, foster artistic self-expression, and a quality work ethic. The Arts Commission is committed to diversity and inclusion in the selection process and is an equal opportunity employer.
This six-week summer youth employment program runs from June 28 - August 6, 2021. Apprentices are expected to work from 9 AM-4 PM, Monday through Friday. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age by June 28, 2021 to be eligible for hire.
Apprentices will be expected to work collaboratively with staff and teams, be active participants in discussions, and produce and create artwork. Youth ages 14-18 with a special interest in performing, literary, and visual arts are encouraged to apply. All details can be found at www.TheArtsCommission.org/Employment . Young Artist at Work Alumna Melissa Mintz (2019, 2020) reflects on her experience:
It's such a good program for getting young kids started on the right foot for a career in the arts. It tells you a lot of things about being an artist that one would want to know and that it's an asset to your community to have a program like YAAW to help unify your city through works of art.
How to Apply
Complete an application online at theartscommission.org/youth, have a legal guardian prepared to answer additional questions, and have one non-relative character recommendation. Applications should be submitted by March 19, 2021 at 4:30PM .
