Crystal Bowersox, the former Toledo School for the Arts student who gained national acclaim as the runner-up on the ninth season of American Idol and who has become a nationally popular country/folk singer and songwriter, is making TSA one of the stops on her current multi-state tour.
Ms. Bowersox will perform in the ProMedica Black Box Studio on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be one of TSA’s Portal Presents series, which brings touring independent artists in to give public concerts in our performance space. These appearances also offer TSA students time to interact with professional artists.
According to her website, “Crystal draws upon her various influences to make the kind of music that resonates with her spirit. It is both tender and tough, rough yet polished, and encompasses many genres without falling neatly into only one. Her mission is to bring a positive message and healing to the world.”
“We are excited to have Crystal return to TSA as one of the first artists to appear in our Portal Presents series,” stated Dave Gierke, TSA development director. “Not only is she a talented performer, but she is so generous in sharing her experiences with our current students. All proceeds from this concert will benefit the school’s programming.”
General admission tickets are $20 while $40 VIP tickets include front-of-house seating and the opportunity to be first in line for the aftershow meet and greet. Tickets are available online at ts4arts.org.
Opened in 1999, Toledo School for the Arts, a public “community” (charter) school, has become known statewide and nationally for offering an outstanding academic and artistic education. The TSA student population has grown from 127 students in grades 7-9 when the school opened to some 780 students in grades 6-12 in the 2025-2026 academic year. Our socio-economically diverse student body hails from approximately 65 different public-school districts and private, parochial and community schools, as well as homeschool settings, throughout northwest Ohio.
