The Greater Toledo Community Foundation has added two senior leaders and announced the upcoming retirement of its chief financial officer as it begins implementing a new strategic plan shaped by community input.

The 2026–2028 “Stronger Together” strategic plan follows an 18-month process involving more than 300 community partners, nonprofits, donors, volunteers and civic leaders across northwest Ohio, the Foundation said.

Aly Sterling has been named to lead the Foundation’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence,  focused on strengthening nonprofit capacity, collaboration and long-term sustainability. Sterling brings more than 20 years of experience in national nonprofit consulting and organizational development.

The Foundation said it is developing a physical hub for the Center to support nonprofit training, connection and capacity-building efforts, and will seek input from local organizations to help shape its programs.

Matt Heyrman has joined the Foundation as its first chief impact officer, overseeing external relations, partnerships, grantmaking and communications. He previously served as president of the Lucas County Economic Development Corporation and deputy county administrator.

Heyrman will help lead implementation of the Foundation's impact priorities, including coordinated, long-term investments aimed at addressing the region's most pressing and systemic challenges.

Chief Financial Officer Kim Cryan will retire in June after 28 years with the organization. The Foundation said it has begun a search for her successor.

"These leadership additions reflect the thoughtful, forward-looking commitment we're making as we move from planning to action," said Kate Sommerfeld, President & CEO of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. "Aly and Matt bring exceptional talent and deep community roots to our team and we are positioned for even greater impact in the years ahead. We are also deeply grateful to Kim for her years of service and the lasting foundation she has built. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career."

The Greater Toledo Community Foundation manages more than $580 million in assets and distributes over $40 million annually to support nonprofits and community initiatives in northwest Ohio.
