Actors Collaborative Toledo (ACT) is proud to present its upcoming production of The Roommate, the sharp, funny, and deeply human twohander by acclaimed playwright Jen Silverman. The production will be staged in the intimate Chapel space at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 316 Adams Street in downtown Toledo.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on May 15 and 16, 2026, with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on May 17, 2026. Seating is limited, and advance ticket purchase is strongly encouraged at www.act419.org.

This production marks the ACT directing debut of Victoria Zajac, who brings a long-standing admiration for the play to the project. Zajac shared her perspective on the work’s resonance:

“With The Roommate, Jen Silverman asks what it takes to define and reinvent yourself when you are ‘Of A Certain Age.’ They show us that change can reignite the spirit, no matter how carefully we have classified ourselves. But metamorphosis is not without risk, and growth does not come without sacrifice. I have loved this play since I first read it in 2019, and with Jennie and Thea it is in such remarkable and capable hands.”

The production features two celebrated Toledo-area performers: Jennifer Nagy Lake as Sharon and Thea Grabiec as Robyn. Grabiec expressed her enthusiasm for the role and the play’s refreshing approach to character:

“I am so excited to reveal a different type of femininity to audiences. Robyn is not a typical female character found in most scripts, so it’s nice to see diversity in both writing and presentation!”

The Roommate follows the unlikely friendship between Sharon, a recently divorced woman in Iowa seeking a fresh start, and Robyn, her enigmatic new roommate from the Bronx. What begins as a simple arrangement quickly evolves into a funny, surprising, and poignant exploration of identity, reinvention, and the unexpected paths that lead us toward transformation.

The Chapel’s 50-seat capacity ensures that ACT’s production surrounds audiences with the play’s intimate, character driven energy.
