The National Museum of the Great Lakes is excited to announce the return of its popular Wellness by the Boat series for 2026. This year, the program is free to the public thanks to co-presenting sponsors UToledo Health and Dr. Mary R. Smith, making it more accessible than ever for the community to enjoy outdoor fitness along the Maumee River.
Held on select Saturdays from May through September at 10 a.m., Wellness by the Boat invites participants of all skill levels to experience Yoga with Parting Clouds Yoga, Strength Training with KickSpark Wholebody Wellness, and Tai Chi with UToledo Health in the museum’s scenic Cliffs Great Lakes Maritime Park.
“We’re always looking for ways to activate our campus and connect people to the water in meaningful ways,” said Sara Smith of the National Museum of the Great Lakes. “Wellness by the Boat is a perfect example of that, bringing people together through outdoor fitness while taking in the beauty of the riverfront. We’re especially excited to be able to offer these classes for free this year, thanks to the support of UToledo Health and Dr. Mary R. Smith.”
Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat and water bottle, though a limited number of mats will be available on-site. Registration is required for each class.

About the National Museum of the Great Lakes: The National Museum of the Great Lakes preserves, shares, and celebrates the past, present, and future of the Great Lakes story. As an interactive, experiential museum, we offer visitors the chance to explore thousands of years of history and stories through nine dynamic exhibit galleries—including a rotating temporary exhibition space—and two historic museum vessels, the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship and the Museum Tug Ohio, plus the pilothouse of the storied St. Marys Challenger.
Founded in 1944 as the Great Lakes Historical Society, we have a long-standing commitment to education, research, and storytelling. Our initiatives include the publication of Inland Seas®, a quarterly journal of Great Lakes history since 1945 and decades of maritime preservation and archaeological exploration. Today, we strive to be the gathering place for Great Lakes conversations—welcoming all to connect with the stories, people, and innovations that have shaped and continue to influence this vital region.
