The Toledo Lucas County Public Library will host its annual Genealogy and Local History Fair on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Main Library. The free event invites visitors to explore their family histories and the Toledo region’s past.
Whether beginning a genealogy journey, diving deeper into family history or chronicling past events in the Toledo region, the Genealogy and Local History Fair offers something for the whole family. Children’s programs, local genealogy organizations and other special features will be available throughout the day.
“The Genealogy and Local History Fair is one of the Toledo Library’s most anticipated annual events,” said Jason Kucsma, executive director of the Library. “It’s a day for families, researchers and history buffs to explore the stories that shaped Toledo and their own family histories.”
The event will feature presentations and workshops led by genealogy experts and historians, along with opportunities for visitors to connect with local archives, historical societies and genealogy organizations. Additional program details and speakers will be announced in the coming months.
Community organizations interested in hosting an information table at the event are encouraged to apply online at toledolibrary.org/genealogyfair. Local nonprofits, historical societies and community groups whose work connects with genealogy, local history and cultural heritage are invited to take part.
Additional details, including the full schedule of programs and participating organizations, will be announced closer to the event.
The Local History and Genealogy Department at the Toledo Library houses approximately 68,000 books and more than 400 manuscript collections containing objects and artifacts that lay the foundation of the people who have called Toledo and Lucas County home throughout its history.
Located at Main Library in downtown Toledo, the department also contains an extensive newspaper archive, yearbooks and other items. In addition to physical media, customers can access digital resources, such as Vintage Aerial, Library Edition, digital collections and exhibits, and digitization services. One-on-one appointments with a librarian are available to assist customers with their genealogy and local history research.
