Toledo Library Sets September 25 Closure of Holland Branch for New Construction

The Toledo Lucas County Public Library has announced that the Holland Branch will close to the public on Friday, Sept. 25, as the Library prepares for the next phase of this building project.

Following community listening sessions and early design work, the Toledo Library determined that constructing a new facility is a more effective and efficient use of voter-approved funds than renovating and expanding the existing building. The current structure will be replaced by a new, larger Holland Branch designed to better serve the community and integrate more fully with the surrounding Strawberry Acres Park.

Library services will continue uninterrupted across the system. Holland Branch staff will be reassigned to other Toledo Library locations, and customers are encouraged to visit nearby branches or access digital resources through the Library’s website.

Construction is anticipated to begin in late fall 2026, with the new Holland Branch to open in 2028. Dates are approximate and subject to change.

“The Holland Branch project reflects the Toledo Library’s commitment to making thoughtful, data-informed decisions about how to best serve the community,” said Jason Kucsma, executive director of the Toledo Library. “After community input and early design work, it was determined that a new facility will provide a more functional and flexible space while making the most responsible use of public funds.”

The new Holland Branch will include updated spaces for collections, programming, study and technology, along with flexible areas designed to support community use and engagement.

In November 2024, Lucas County voters approved a one-mill bond to fund capital improvements across the Toledo Library system. The $153 million investment supports reconfiguration, renovation, expansion or new construction at nearly all Library locations over the next decade. The first phase of the master plan includes the Holland Branch project, a new branch on South Detroit Ave. in South Toledo, a new Washington Branch campus and a new library planned for Whitehouse, Ohio.
