Adventus Climbing is home to one of the region’s most extraordinary youth teams — a small but mighty group of seven athletes, ages 11–17, who have achieved outsized success in just two short years.
Founded in the fall of 2024, the Adventus Climbing Team has already sent multiple athletes to regional and district championships and has advanced climbers to USA Climbing Nationals two years in a row. This week, team member Sam competes with a coveted spot at Nationals, which will take place June 26-28 in Salt Lake City, UT. Last year, climber Kennedy represented Adventus on the national stage in Portland, OR. On team of only seven youth — five male and two female — these accomplishments are exceptional and a sense of pride for the Northwest Ohio gym.
“Climbing teaches resilience in a way few sports can. Every route is a problem to solve, and our athletes rise to that challenge again and again. Watching them grow in confidence has been the most rewarding part of coaching,” said Coach Tayler Brown.
Coaches Tayler Brown and Lily Jones lead the program with a focus on developing not just strong climbers, but strong humans. Climbing is uniquely positioned among youth sports: every route is a puzzle, every attempt requires resilience, and every breakthrough builds confidence. Athletes learn to problem-solve under pressure, manage fear and persist through failure — skills that translate far beyond the wall.
“Our small team gives us the chance to coach each athlete deeply, and their support for one another is incredible. Seeing climbers like Sam and Kennedy reach Nationals shows what’s possible when young people feel truly believed in,” said Coach Lily Jones.
Adventus also invests in helping young people explore climbing at their own pace. Weekly youth climbing clubs and summer camps introduce kids to the sport in a fun, supportive environment, giving families a chance to discover whether competitive climbing is the right fit.
“This team reflects everything Adventus was created for — grit, curiosity, and the joy of discovering what you’re capable of. Their success in just two years is remarkable, but their character is what makes us proud,” said General Manager Kerri Cipriani.
At their full-service Reynolds Road facility, Adventus Climbing has developed a culture built on encouragement, grit and thoughtful coaching, shaping the next generation of athletes in Northwest Ohio.
