Main Library Event Connects Toledo to Nationwide America250 Declaration Reading

What: The public is invited to participate in a community reading of the Declaration of Independence at Main Library as part of a nationwide simultaneous reading marking America250 programming.

Participants will read portions of the document alongside communities across all 50 states, five U.S. territories, the District of Columbia and U.S. outlying areas.

Those interested in participating should arrive at Main Library by 5:45 p.m. Reading slots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

When: Wednesday, July 8: 6–6:20 p.m.

Where: Main Library: 325 N. Michigan Street, Toledo, Ohio

Significance: Communities across the United States will gather simultaneously on July 8 as part of America250 programming to mark the anniversary of the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence.

The national initiative, sponsored by the Hawai’i America250 Commission, brings together participants in all 50 states, five U.S. territories, the District of Columbia and U.S. outlying areas.

The coordinated reading highlights the geographic scale of the United States today and invites reflection on the enduring impact of the Declaration of Independence nearly 250 years later.
