Toledo Repertoire Theatre Presents Tom Sawyer

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is proud to announce its upcoming production of the classic Mark Twain novel Tom Sawyer, running June 10 through June 12 under the direction of innovative director F. Scott Regan.

Still set in Missouri in the 1840s, audience members will be elated seeing classic scenes from the novel, such as the graveyard and classroom scenes, brought to life in this careful adaptation loyal to its classic source material.

The work holds significant cultural and historical significance, especially given America’s 250th anniversary of Independence Day this month. “Literary experts consider Tom Sawyer the first great American novel,” says director F. Scott Regan. “We have tried to honor the greatness of Mark Twain with this adaptation, and most classic scenes from the novel appear on stage. I hope it will be entertaining for people of all ages.”

“I am excited about how active we all get to be while doing the play. I enjoy all the props and the costumes and I feel that the characters from the original book are all described and brought to life very well in this production,” says Remington Spencer who plays Huckleberry Finn.

Stage manager Kay “Morgana” Swift has high praises for the show’s young cast. “All the kids are working hard. We have a nice mix of experienced and new young performers who are all very excited to share their talent with the audience.”

The production features a cast of 12 young performers from across the Greater Toledo Area.

Actor Michael McCartey, who is not new to the 10th street stage, also spoke about how this particular production can appeal to everyone.

“The cast is very fun and everyone is very nice. I want people to come see this show. We all worked so hard on this, we have a great director and we have a great set,” says McCarty. “And as Scott said on the first day of rehearsal, we want people to say that it was a good show, and not just a good show for children.”
