Steven J. Athanas to Host Book Signing for New Release

Northwest Ohio artist, musician, and former frontman for Toledo bands including The Homewreckers and The Coosters, Steven J. Athanas, has released his first book, A Time for Burrowing (and Other Like-Minded Scribbles Regarding the Human Condition) — a 200-page collection of watercolor artwork, poetry, observations, and off-kilter humor.

Athanas will host a book signing and reading on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hudson Gallery, located at 5645 Main Street in Sylvania, Ohio.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event. The evening will also feature guest readers, including Joel Lipman, Lucas County Poet Laureate from 2008–2014.

In addition, a reunion performance by The Coosters will include “Bed,” one of the featured pieces from the book.

“I look forward to seeing all my chums at this event,” Athanas said, “and exposing them to another aspect of who I am.”

Part visual art collection, part poetic commentary, and part absurdist reflection on modern life, A Time for Burrowing marks Athanas’ latest creative chapter after more than five decades in music and the arts.
