The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) today announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors: Susan Conda, Sheree Hovsepian, and Sydney Williams, PhD. The new trustees bring decades of combined experience in philanthropy, contemporary art, and business leadership, and will support TMA’s continued work serving the community.
“Susan, Sydney, and Sheree bring distinct perspectives to the Toledo Museum of Art Board of Directors alongside a shared commitment to our community and this institution,” said Mike Thaman, TMA Board President. “We are excited to join them and grateful for the time, insight, and energy they are choosing to invest in this institution.”
Susan Conda
Susan Conda is a longtime Perrysburg/Maumee-area community volunteer and philanthropist whose work has strengthened arts access, mental health support, and inclusive programming across Greater Toledo. She founded the Hope and Recovery Pets Program (HARP) with ProMedica; co-created “Meet Me” at the Toledo Zoo; and, along with her parents, supported the integration of the arts with science, technology, engineering and math with the inauguration of the Conda STEAM Center at the Mazza Museum of the University of Findlay. A member of TMA’s Georgia Welles Apollo Society, Conda served on the Museum’s Education Committee from 2021 to 2024 and with her family has been a generous supporter of TMA accessibility initiatives, endowing the Conda Family Manager of Access Initiatives, the first named position dedicated to access in a major United States museum. She has served on many boards, including Live Arts Toledo, Lourdes University, and The Ability Center of Greater Toledo. Conda holds a B.S. in Food Science and Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Sheree Hovsepian
Sheree Hovsepian is a New York City–based artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans photography, collage, drawing, and sculpture exploring the human form and identity. Born in Isfahan, Iran, and raised in Toledo, she formed an early connection to TMA through childhood visits and art classes. Hovsepian earned a dual BFA/BA from the University of Toledo, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including a dedicated presentation at the 2022 Venice Biennale, and is held in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
Sydney Williams, PhD
Dr. Sydney Williams is President of Designetics, Inc., a Toledo-area global leader in fluid application systems serving clients in more than 60 countries. Under her leadership, the company has built a culture centered on quality, service, and community investment, including through the Designetics Cares Foundation’s support for children’s initiatives. Williams holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, an Executive MBA from the University of Toledo, and dual BFAs in Art History and Ceramics from Ohio State University. An active community volunteer, Sydney has served on and chaired numerous boards, including the Dana Open, Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo, and the University of Toledo Family Business Center, among others.
“Our Board exists to be the voice of the community at the Museum,” Thaman added. “Everything the Toledo Museum of Art has done is the result of the work of the board members who came before us. Susan, Sydney, and Sheree will now join us to carry that responsibility forward.”
