Toledo Museum of Art Welcomes Brian Barber as GAPP Artist-in-Residence

The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) announces architectural designer and artist Brian Barber as the latest participant in the Sara Jane DeHoff Guest Artist Pavilion Project (GAPP), the Museum’s residency program for glass and contemporary artists. Barber’s residency will run Wednesday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, in the Glass Pavilion’s Hot Shop.

A proud member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma, Barber draws on the traditions of Pawnee folklore and storytelling as the foundation of his sculptural, drawing and glass practice.

“By utilizing the languages of contemporary art and architecture, I am able to recontextualize my ancestor’s traditional stories and present them in a new way,” said Barber.

Barber holds a BFA and MFA in glass from The Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. He moved back to Seattle in 2016, where he continues to balance a career in architecture with his artistic practice. His work has been exhibited in museums nationwide and is held in numerous collections.

“Brian’s work continues the vision Sara Jane DeHoff had for this program, and represents a meaningful contribution to contemporary glass art,” said Alan Iwamura, Assistant Director, Glass Studios, at the Toledo Museum of Art.
