The Toledo Lucas County Public Library is inviting the community to A Sweet Send-Off at the Holland Branch on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free, family-friendly celebration will give customers an opportunity to enjoy one last visit to the branch, connect with neighbors and library staff, and celebrate the many memories made there before construction begins on a new Holland Branch.
The event will feature special activities, sweet treats and opportunities to learn more about the new library planned for the Holland community. Guests are encouraged to stop by, share their favorite Holland Branch memories and help celebrate the branch's legacy while looking ahead to an exciting new chapter.
“The Holland Branch has been an important part of this community for many years, and we're excited to invite everyone to celebrate the memories made here while looking ahead to its next chapter,” said Jason Kucsma, Toledo Library executive director. “This new facility represents an investment in the future of Holland, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back when the new branch opens."
The Holland Branch will close to the public on Friday, Sept. 25, as the Library prepares for construction of a new, larger facility designed to better serve the community and connect more fully with Strawberry Acres Park.
Construction is anticipated to begin in late fall 2026, with the new Holland Branch to open in 2028. Dates are approximate and subject to change. Library services will continue at nearby locations and online throughout construction.
In November 2024, Lucas County voters approved a one-mill bond to fund capital improvements across the Toledo Library system. The $153 million investment supports reconfiguration, renovation, expansion or new construction at nearly all Library locations over the next decade. The first phase of the master plan includes the Holland Branch project, a new branch on South Detroit Ave. in South Toledo, a new Washington Branch campus and a new library planned for Whitehouse, Ohio.
