TPS Superintendent Dr. Durant to Close African American Legacy Project’s Summer Patio Series

The African American Legacy Project (AALP) will conclude its Summer Patio Series with a special presentation by Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant, who will share his perspective on the future of education in Toledo and the critical role schools, families and the community must play in preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities.

The presentation will focus on the evolving educational landscape and Toledo Public Schools’ vision for ensuring that students are equipped not only to graduate, but to successfully navigate the educational, career and economic opportunities that await them beyond the classroom. Among the topics Dr. Durant will discuss will be the skills, experiences and pathways students need to compete in a rapidly changing world and how TPS is working to better position students for college, careers, entrepreneurship and other post-secondary opportunities. The discussion is also expected to address the upcoming TPS levy and the importance of community understanding and engagement as Toledo considers the future of its public schools.

The Summer Patio Series has provided AALP with an informal setting to bring community members together for conversation, information sharing and engagement around issues affecting the Toledo community. The closing presentation will continue that tradition while placing a special emphasis on education, preparation and opportunity.

Dr. Durant’s presentation will also provide an opportunity for parents, educators, community leaders, students and residents to learn more about the direction of Toledo Public Schools and consider how the broader community can contribute to student success.
