Point Place Toledo

Point Place offers a small town community close to the urban attractions of Toledo, Ohio. Point Place was annexed into the City of Toledo in 1937 and has a long history ( www.geocities.com/pointplacehistory) as a farming community and important water port. Today, Point Place is full of docks, parks and yacht clubs.

A unique shore side community, Point Place offers numerous water activities thanks to a prime location near Lake Erie, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the United States, the Maumee River (www.toledo.com/attractions/maumme_river) and the Ottawa River.

Local marinas include the New Harrison Marina, Inc. and Bush Marine . You can also get a memorable ride in the 100 passenger Sandpiper Boat ( www.sandpiperboat.com) on the Maumee River. Available for public and private rides, plus you can experience their new “murder mystery cruise.”

The Toledo Yacht Club was founded in 1865 by two rowing clubs, The Naiads and the Undines and continues a proud, rich historical tradition. The Club is currently located in the Bayview Park. This park was the site of a famous 1919 heavyweight title boxing match between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard.

The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse ( www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=272) has been a famous Point Place tourist attraction since it finished construction in 1904. For more information, contact the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Preservation Society ( www.toledoharborlighthouse.org).
