Ever Wonder About the Frankenmuth Story?

Venue Reviews  |  Posted by: Tedd Long  |  04/11/2023

So, you’re planning a family trip to Frankenmuth. I know what you are thinking. Frankenmuth is about carriage tours, Bavarian-style architecture, chicken dinners, and Christmas decorations. Think again if you are a fan of local history. The Frankenmuth Historical Museum does an incredible job of packing the fascinating history and evolution of this unique village into a little brick building on Main Street. A visit here is a wonderful trip back in time that explains how “Little Bavaria” ended up along the Cass River in the heart of Michigan.

We visited recently and were impressed by the seven-gallery museum and the unique gift shop offering interesting local history books and locally crafted and European goods. The museum, run by the Frankenmuth Historical Society, is designed around some cool dioramas that explain various eras in Frankenmuth history. We especially liked the information on lumbering and the rotating exhibit on Surviving the Cold War. For beer aficionados, the Society has recently completed a museum refresh and rolled out the new "Brew-wall," an exhibit focusing on the history of beer in the Alpine village.
